Undergraduate programmes: BA Digital Media Design / BSc Digital Media Development
Throughout the programme students are encouraged to challenge current design practices and styles in order to develop their own personal approach to design informed by and responding to the latest ideas. From the outset of the programme students develop an online portfolio that allows them to demonstrate and challenge their creative ability as well as being a means to chart their progress throughout their studies.
In Year 1 students share a common programme of study with BSc Digital Media Development. This is a parallel programme that goes further into the application of technology in the production of digital media artefacts. Throughout the programme students undertake a range of team-based design and production projects with students on the BSc programme. The programme offers students a diagnostic opportunity to discover, within fairly broad parameters, which area of the digital media industry most excites, or best suits, them. The core theme of Year 1 is based around the design and development of websites and the principles of interactivity.
In Year 2 students develop practice in one of the following areas: web and interactive media design; animation and game design; and design for portable media. Although there are many crossover points, this focus enables students to explore a particular design ideology whilst building their confidence and expertise in a more defined area of practice.
Students in Year 3 continue in their specialist area whilst being given the opportunity to study business practice within the creative digital media industry. These core business skills help the student enter the industry as both a practitioner and as an entrepreneur.

Postgraduate programme: MA Digital Media Practice
Over the past few years, career opportunities in the digital media sector have increased dramatically. The interactive media industry is reaching maturity and needs qualified professionals able to offer a diverse range of expertise and originality. This innovative Masters programme allows for either the development and pursuit of a student’s existing digital practice to an advanced level, or the conversion of a student’s knowledge and practice in a complementary discipline to the field of digital media.
It is a professionally focused programme that allows for the dynamic understanding and development of theory within the context of practice. The innovative open nature of the programme structure is designed to accommodate a wide range of specialist interests within the broad spectrum of careers that are available within the digital media industry. These range from leadership roles such as account handler or project manager through to creative roles such as concept designer or content developer.
The programme is specifically designed to integrate with professional practitioners and bodies to provide a close and dynamic engagement with the digital media industry. These partnerships give students the starting point to develop their own broad network of professional contacts and to identify key practitioners.
